My Style is…

Me & My Pen

My style is tomboyish. My style is unique. My style is flyy.  My style is me.

Hello everyone, this is my first de la Pen post. I must admit that I feel very awkward right now as this is a new side of myself that I’m sharing with the world. I have always loved fashion and style, but, it wasn’t until recently that I started to read and study fashion. I now know most of the famous designers, photographers, and models by name and face. However, I still feel odd about this new ground I’m breaking.

I have soaked up most of what I have read and yet fashion still seems to be this elusive world that I cannot reach. Nevertheless, I understand style and what I consider to be stylish. There are fashion labels I adore but would never wear such as Betsey Johnson, John Galliano, and the late great Alexander McQueen. Each of these designers makes unique clothing that is as outrageous as it is beautiful. And yet, most of it is completely unwearable. These designers make distinct statement pieces that define fashion. Nonetheless, fashion and style are completely different.

As Marc Jacobs said, “fashion is what you see on the runway. Style is what people actually wear.”

In essence, I decided to dedicate my first de la Pen post to my style. As previously mentioned, my style is tomboyish, unique, and flyy.  I took a quiz on modelinia.com last week, and the quiz told me I was contemporary chic. This quiz did an excellent job of defining my style because it is so true. I will always have the following:

  • a white tee
  • black flats
  • a cute pair of low-rise jeans (dark & light wash)
  • pearl studs
  • pearl necklace
  • red nail polish
  • gold eyeshadow
  • a bead necklace
  • four to six inch heels
  • lipgloss

As you can see, I have listed items that will never go out of style.  Also, nothing on this list is to be terribly expensive. I am seriously the $20 dollar shopper. If any single item costs over $20 before tax, I cannot take it home.  The above list proves that I love things that never go out of style. I really don’t like trends although I do pay attention. Sometimes, I purposely stay away from trends just to keep my own familiar style. For instance, I don’t own a pair of Skinny Jeans and I never will. I also I detest Ugg boots with everything in me. I refuse to wear things simply because they are in a magazine and “everyone else is doing it”. I have to stay true to my own style or I don’t feel like I’m being me.

So I guess what I’m really trying to say is that I have my own take on fashion and style, and there is nothing that can change that.

And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
