Model Mondays: Abbey Lee Kershaw

Abbey Lee Kershaw

This week’s, Model Mondays is dedicated to another new fashion newcomer, Abbey Lee Kershaw.  I must admit that when I first saw Abbey Lee Kershaw, it was difficult for me to see her beauty.  Abbey Lee has a wide jaw and her teeth have quite a few spaces between them.  Also, she seemed very dainty and awkward…I know what you’re thinking…that was a brutal assessment, Pen.  I know it’s pretty harsh but it’s how I felt.  However, my opinion of Abbey Lee has since changed…tremendously! In fact, she’s now one of my favorite models (like top 10).

So what changed my opinion of Abbey Lee? Simple, I took a closer look. I’m new to the fashion world (I barely have a toe in the industry much less a foot in the door), but, one thing I have realized is that fashion is all about taking a deeper look. Seeing beyond what is right in front of you.  To be in fashion (or any creative field), you have to have an imagination. You have to be able to see the wonder and beauty in something that you may not see at first glance. You have to imagine that something simple like a black dress can become the iconic “little black dress” that every woman owns.

Abbey Lee (Harper's Bazaar)

Abbey Lee has that imaginative type of beauty.  You have to look her past her tall, lanky frame, the strong jaw, and look deeper into her bright blue eyes.  Once you stare into her eyes, you’re immediately hypnotized. In fact, the more I blog about models, the more I’m convinced that having beautiful eyes is key to being successful.  Anyway, Abbey Lee is a beautiful model with her own imperfections but it’s her ability to curve her imperfections and make them beautiful that makes her such a wonderful model.

When Abbey Lee is on the runway, you don’t look at anything but her and the clothes she’s wearing, of course.  Abbey Lee has a presence that’s really hard to describe in words.  She has that…that…uh-oh my fave Kay Thompson word,  pizzazz! (FYI: I want to be a mix of Kay Thompson in “Funny Face”, Meryl Streep in “Devil Wears Prada”, and the real life Susan Taylor).

Abbey Lee (Vogue Australia)

Abbey Lee hails from Australia and since being discovered in an Australian modeling contest in 2004, she has been virtually unstoppable.  She has appeared on the cover of Vogue Australia three times, and she’s done editorials for V magazine, W magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar. For 2010,  she will be appearing in ad campaigns for the Gap,  and she will be the face of Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2010/2011 ready to wear ad campaign. In essence, Abbey Lee is on the move and she’s definitely one to watch. Make sure you stay tuned.

And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
