Press Pen: Fashion’s Night Out and IFB Evolving Influence Fashion Blogger Conference

Fashion's Night Out 2010 Logo

Dear Pennies,

As you may or may not know (but hopefully you do), Fashion’s Night Out is next Friday, September 10th.  Since I am in New York, I will definitely be covering the festivities for the blog.  This will mark the first official press pen coverage.  There were other events and items I could have covered prior to this event but I decided to wait till Fashion’s Night Out because it’s right in the middle of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and it kicks off my birthday weekend. In essence, I realized that if I was going to cover events then Fashion Week and Fashion’s Night Out would kick off with a bang!

Fashion’s Night Out started last year and is the brainchild of the lovely Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue.  Ms. Wintour created this event to rejuvenate shopping and get people excited about fashion again.  I’m not sure if it’s because I love fashion but everywhere I look, there is press about Fashion Week and Fashion’s Night Out.  In fact, I’m hearing that Ms. Wintour and Marc jacobs are to appear on Jimmy Fallon tonight.

I am excited about the Fashion’s Night Out event because it will be an awesome networking opportunity for me and additionally it really is just a cool event.  All the coolest boutiques and iconic New York department stores will open stay late and also provide entertainment, drinks, and food.  What could be better? A chance to meet some of the world’s most influential fashion insiders, shop for clothes, and just hang out.  In New York, everything seems to be a big event and a collision of who’s who, and this event is the home of that.

I believe that long after the recession and after Ms. Wintour leaves Vogue (which hopefully won’t happen anytime soon), Fashion’s Night Out will continue.  The event is only in its second year and already it has tremendous momentum.  If it continues to grow it will be no different than Summer Jam or Shakespeare in the Park which are major music and theatre events respectively.  Fashion has finally found an event that will attract everyone and believe me, it is here to stay.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks off next week and with it comes other related events.  The Independent Fashion Bloggers will be hosting a Fashion Blogger Conference on September 9th.  I will definitely be there and I’m excited to meet other fashion bloggers in addition to learning a lot.  I’m so glad I joined IFB because it has been a great resource for me.  I hear that this is the second year for the conference, so, I’m excited to attend and I’ll definitely keep you posted.

Overall, I just wanted to forgo this week’s, Designer Discussion and instead focus on next week’s happenings for Press Pen.  However, I will resume regularly scheduled posting for tomorrow and Friday.  Until then,  see a Penny and pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck!

And there it is. Press Pen reporting live from de la Pen…the Fashion and Style of the Pen.
