Dear Pennies,

For the first Tuesday’s Thoughts of 2011, I wanted to feature actress, Zoe Saldana. Zoe Saldana had an amazing 2010 since she became the only actress to have three movies in the top twenty for three consecutive weeks, these movies are Death at a Funeral, Avatar, and the Losers (Wikipedia). Zoe Saldana is half Dominican and half Puerto Rican. She grew up in Queens, New York and the Dominican Republic. In fact, it was in the Dominican Republic that she trained in ballet and dance. These talents proved to serve her well as her breakout role was that of a dancer in the 2000 film, Center Stage.

Over the past ten years, Zoe has been building her career as an actress since she was in Drumline opposite Nick Cannon, Guess Who opposite Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac, and finally she built herself up to Star Trek which most likely streamlined her for a blockbuster like Avatar. In between shooting movies and attending film screenings, Zoe can often be spotted on fashion blogs wearing the latest trends. She was also featured in a lingerie ad for Calvin Klein in 2010.

For this reason, I chose to write about Zoe’s personal style. Always chic and never over done, Zoe makes style look and seem effortless. And though she is paper thin, she doesn’t look unhealthy nor does she make you want to go on an immediate diet. Zoe is simply naturally thin and she wears it well. Randomly our society is beginning to embrace curves because of women like Beyonce, so now the slimmer women are getting a side eye. (*shrugs* I guess you can’t please everyone).

I especially love Zoe’s red carpet looks. She can usually be found wearing bold & bright colors, I’d credit that to her Hispanic heritage. Zoe usually doesn’t wear much make-up and her hair is usually simple yet fabulous.  In essence, Zoe is a modern day style icon because she knows how to mix chicness and high fashion and she always looks gorgeous and comfortable. In the future, be on the lookout for Zoe in the sequels to Star Trek and Avatar.

And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
