Press Pen: Perry Ellis F/W 2011 Show Review

Dear Pennies,

Somehow by the grace of the fashion gods, I was able to score an invite to the Perry Ellis Fall/Winter 2011 show. The show was completely packed as everyone was there to see the brand make its big comeback. John Crocco is the creative director for the brand and he’s definitely bringing the brand back in a major way.

The collection’s colors consisted of charcoal, camel, blue, and a little white and black sprinkled in. Since the colors evoked a neutral calming feeling, so did the collection. It made me think of nature in the fall, the changing colors of leaves, and when the trees become bare once the leaves fall and winter is near. The collection was very masculine without coming off as harsh. It was relaxed menswear for the fashion forward man.

In my opinion, there is nothing worse than menswear that doesn’t remind me of masculinity. In womenswear, a designer has more freedom to push the envelope but being that most men just like simple, wearable fashions it’s best to just stick to the staples. John Crocco and the Perry Ellis design team definitely provided men with staples for the fall and winter. Items like the wool herringbone jacket, wool pea coat, denim and wool trousers, and lambswool turtlenecks provide men with stylish staples that they can wear for years.

Overall, I loved the collection. I would’ve thrown in one or two brighter colors just to make the collection “pop” a little bit more but other than that, I have no complaints. Also just wanted to mention that past “Model Mondays” feature David Agbodji walked in the show. Perry Ellis is definitely on its way back to being a must have brand. And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
