Press Pen: Vivienne Tam Fall/Winter 2011 Show Review

Dear Pennies,

It’s Pen here to report on Vivienne Tam’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection. My apologies for posting my review so late, but, I went to a lot of shows and events so I’m still playing catch up. Therefore, this week I’m dedicating the blog to my final show and event reviews and later this week I’ll be doing a special post on the biggest trends I saw this past fashion week.

Back to Vivienne Tam, this New York based Chinese designer showed a dark collection that was full of ornate details and intricate embroidery. Honestly, this collection wasn’t my favorite. There were pieces that I liked such as a silver flapper dress, and a black tweed coat. But overall, I thought the collection was a bit too much. The print pieces seemed a bit random and out of place and then there were those details. I can understand embroidery on couture pieces but it really has no place in ready-to-wear especially when the details are so fine.

I did like the color palette because it was consistent and each tone complimented the other. I also loved the models’ make up and hair and I think the accessories enhanced the collection. Overall, the collection presented some very nice pieces it just went a little overboard with unnecessary details. Check out the collection on YouTube and tell me  what you think Pennies. Did you like Vivienne Tam’s collection? Why or why not?
