Press Pen: Number:Lab Spring/Summer 2012 Show Review

Dear Pennies & Pens,

It’s Pen here reporting from New York Fashion Week. Sorry, I’m behind on articles but I’ve been running around to so many events, I haven’t had a chance to write. Moving right along, on Wednesday, I attended the Number: Lab Spring/Summer 2012 show which was at The Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District of NYC.

I actually covered the Number:Lab F/W 2011 show last season here. This year, designer Luis Fernandez was inspired by both the French Riviera from the 1930s and the contemporary style of skaters. The collection included a lot of different shades of blue, orange, grey, and black. There was also a black & white print that was used for a jacket, and a pair of shorts. This print came from a collaboration with artist, Joseph La Piana.

Overall, I really enjoyed the collection. I thought it was simple, athletic, and masculine. Number:Lab is seriously on its way to being a competitor for major brands like Nautica and Perry Ellis. The clothes are so wearable & they appeal to different types of men. The only thing I didn’t like about the collection was the graphic print. While I think it was very artistic, it would just seem weird to see a guy actually wearing that. I really think prints should be restricted to ties for men. Printed clothes on a man just look odd because most men usually wear basic colors because they are too impatient or not style savvy enough to coordinate various prints or colors.

As far as the show itself, that was really cool. The first three or four models skateboarded onto the runway! Everyone was expecting the models to come walking down the runway and here they come on skateboards, so that was awesome. After that, there was a full runway show of all the looks & after that there was a presentation.

In conclusion, Number:Lab is a brand to keep on your radar. Be sure to check out my Facebook page for more pics from Number:Lab and all my NYFW (NY Fashion Week) photos!

And there it is. The Fashion & Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
