Press Pen: Katya Leonovich S/S 2013 Show Review

Dear Pennies & Pens,

It’s Pen here to continue New York Fashion Week coverage with a review of Katya Lenovich’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. I first attend Katya’s show last season when it was shown presentation style in the Box at Lincoln Center. This season Katya switched it up with a runway show at Lincoln Center. To be honest, I’m such a fan of Katya that she could’ve shown burlap shacks and I still would’ve swooned. Thankfully, Katya didn’t show any burlap sacks but instead showed a collection full of green cut out dresses, metallics, and white printed organza pieces.

My favorite looks included a green printed cut out dress, a metallic cut out dress that was somewhere between edgy, fresh, and chic, as well as another cool green cut out dress. There were also two dresses with the faces of President Obama and the presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on bluish metallic cut out dresses. The models wearing these dresses came down the runway at the same time and being that the RNC convention was held before fashion week while the DNC happened during fashion week, it made quite the statement.

There were a couple of missteps in the collection such as the grey printed organza jacket with pleated sleeves and ruffled skirt. This ensemble was just too busy, I think if it were styled differently you could focus on the detailing of each piece but it was just too much at once. Also there were two beige cut out jackets paired with snakeskin skirts that just didn’t fit in with the rest of the collection.

In essence, the collection was very strong and was definitely one of my fashion week highlights. It was  lovely to see Katya’s clothes in motion as the models strutted down the runway because this collection definitely needed to be seen as if it were a moving image. Overall, this collection is Pen tested and Pen approved.

And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything.
