Dear Pennies & Pens,

Want to create the best girl group since Destiny’s Child and the new school version of the Spice Girls? If the answer is yes, here’s the recipe: add a dash of Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jesy, and Jade. Now voila, you’ve got Little Mix! Little Mix is a girl band from the UK and they are phenomenal! Ironically enough, Little Mix won X-Factor UK after Kelly Rowland (of Destiny’s Child) helped mentor them and turn the four soloists into a group.

Since that time, Little Mix has been making serious waves. I fell in love with them because they can actually sing! Not to mention, their style is insane. Each girl is has her own unique and individual style. Little Mix is not the girl group that dresses alike. In fact, their style is what helps you tell them apart. Not that you’d ever get them mixed up, but, I love how their style allows them to differentiate from one another but their music brings them together.

Little Mix released their first album DNA in 2012. I honestly don’t remember how I discovered Little Mix, I just know that since hearing their music two years ago, I haven’t stopped listening to it. DNA is an amazing album! Little Mix shows off their vocal ability, writing skills, and prove that they can collaborate with talented producers and music icons. My favorite tracks are Wings, DNA, Change Your Life, Stereo Soldier, Always Be Together, We Are Who We Are, How Ya Doin, Red Planet, Madhouse, Going Nowhere, and Case Closed.

Wow, so, I just pretty much listed every song on the album, lol! Each of these songs features lyrical prowess, on key and harmonized singing, plus sick beats. On DNA, Little Mix collaborates with T-Boz on Red Planet and Missy Elliott on How Ya Doin. Both of these songs are seriously dope. The fact that Little Mix was able to work with such music powerhouses on their debut album proves that they are a force to be reckoned with. Each song on the DNA album features an empowering message for women, the truth about relationships, and beats that make you want to move.

That said, let’s move on to Little Mix’s newest album, SALUTE. Like DNA, I pretty much love every song on this album. But the ones I can’t live without are Salute, Move, Little Me, Competition, About the Boy, Boy, Mr. Loverboy, See Me Now, They Just Don’t Know You, and Stand Down.

Each of these songs is constantly on repeat on my iPhone, Nexus 7, and my computer. Yes, this album is so serious that I have it on all three of my devices. Y’all didn’t believe me when I said I haven’t stopped listening to Little Mix since discovering their music?! Lol, you should’ve, it’s true.

I like Salute because Little Mix manages to take old school R&B and make it really modern and fresh. Songs like Move make you want to dance, Competition brings out your competitive side, and Boy is such an amazing breakup song. Stand Down also has cool, jazz-inspired vocals. The girls harmonizing on Stand Down reminds me of an old school jazz track. Overall, it’s just fresh album. Check out Little Mix to purchase their album and learn more about them.
