Press Pen: Idris Elba Releases Short Film For Pepsi’s Beats of the Beautiful Game

Dear Pennies & Pens,

Ever since I saw American Gangster and Daddy’s Little Girls with Idris Elba, I have believed in his talent as an actor. However, Idris has recently taken on a new role of writer and director as evidenced in the newly released short film, “Unstoppable” for Pepsi’s Beats of the Beautiful Game.

The film is set in the 1970’s (what Idris considers the golden age of soccer) and marks the directorial debut for Idris under his new production company, Green Door Pictures. The film’s music, also called “Unstoppable” was produced by DJ R3hab and features Eva Simons. The star of the film is Zach Hamilton, a NC native that Idris “discovered” from the his amazing soccer vine videos.

The Pepsi® Beats of the Beautiful Game album is an exclusive collection of 11 anthemic songs and companion short films that capture the international spirit, sights and sounds of the world’s most popular game – football. The invincible feeling created from listening to “Unstoppable” was visually captured by triple-threat actor/director/rapper Idris Elba.

Elba’s short-film takes place in the 1970s, a golden age for international football, and features football skills expert Zach Hamilton. Exploring the hidden-talents within all of us, the film is the first effort from Elba’s new production shingle – Green Door Pictures.

I absolutely adored this amazing short film! Since it was set in the 70s, the film utilizes that vintage filter to make it look authentic. The styling is also amazing because you truly feel that you’re watching a film shot and set in the 70s. I also enjoyed the actors, although they didn’t speak much, their facial expressions and body language were spot on. It’s lovely to see an artist explore other forms of art and get it right. Like the film and the song, Idris Elba just may be Unstoppable.
