Pen.Point: The Seasoned Traveler…Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Dear Pennies & Pens,

To quote Left Eye, “You’ve got your hotel, motel, Holiday Inn.” I’m not really sure how that quote relates to this post but it felt right at the time. Lol! Moving right along, as you all know I launched Pen.Point: The Seasoned Traveler series last year to showcase unique travel & hospitality brands. Each brand has products or services that can enhance the lives of readers.

That said, today, I wanted to spotlight a few hotels that are currently on my radar. While I have not stayed at any of these locations, I have done thorough research and I believe they are worth checking out. To keep this post streamlined, I have chosen hotels in L.A., Portland, and Denver.

L.A., Denver, and Portland each have their own vibe and things that make them unique. In essence, I wanted to spotlight hotels that match the aura of the city. Each hotel is unique, artistic, and classic. With no further adieu, I present to you: Pen.Point: The Seasoned Traveler…Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

If you’re going to be visiting The City of Angels aka Los Angeles you should check out Sunset Marquis. Sunset Marquis is a luxury hotel in West Hollywood that for the past 50 years has served as a home away from home for actors, comedians, writers, artists, fashion designers, supermodels, and much more. Basically, Sunset Marquis is the hotel that anybody who is anybody stays in. Not too shabby, huh?

So what is about Sunset Marquis that keeps guests coming back for more? It’s a world class destination with luxurious suites and villas, fine dining, tranquil gardens, and a bar.

As it states on the website, “Sunset Marquis is 3.5 acres of Mediterranean oasis nestled on a hill just off The Sunset Strip.” That said, check it out here: Sunset Marquis.

Another option for L.A. is The Line Hotel. The Line is a new Los Angeles hotel collaboration from the Sydell Group (owners of the NoMad in New York) that opened January 1, 2014 in Koreatown.

Housed in an iconic, all-concrete brutalist-style building retaining its original 1964 design, the hotel is the first to draw inspiration from the distinct Korean culture of its surrounding neighborhood.

The Line includes a restaurant by Koreatown’s own Roy Choi (celebrated chef behind Kogi, Chego and A-Frame), nightlife by the Houston Brothers (the duo responsible for prominent LA lounges such as La Descarga and Harvard & Stone).

Additionally, there’s Poketo, a design and lifestyle boutique curated for the discerning traveler. The store stocks everything from apparel, books, magazines, stationary to apothecary items, many of which are exclusive to the store. Interior design was done by Venice-based Sean Knibb (Knibb Design). Check them out here: The Line Hotel
