Fashion for Music; Music for Fashion: Kelly Rowland…From Style Maven…To Style Icon

Dear Pennies,

For this week’s, Fashion for Music; Music for Fashion post, I wanted to talk about singer, songwriter, actress, and style maven, Kelly Rowland. I’ve been a quiet fan of Kelly’s for awhile now, ever since her Destiny’s Child days since she and Bey were my favorite members. After Destiny’s Child split, Kelly began her solo career with the album, “Simply Deep” which has sold 2.5 million copies worldwide. Kelly went onto to drop “Ms. Kelly” in 2007 and she’s currently working on her untitled third release.Ā Wikipedia – Kelly Rowland

As I said earlier, I’ve been quietly admiring the music & fabulous fashion of Ms. Rowland for awhile now. However, since 2009, Kelly has been stepping into the spotlight. With songs like “When Love Takes Over” with David Guetta and “Commander”, Kelly is quickly becoming an international sensation. Although, her music is bigger overseas particularly in the UK, Kelly has proven that she has what it takes to be a music icon without being a member of a girl group.

Additionally, Kelly’s fashion sense has been consistently corresponding with her new commander flavor. Kelly’s been switching it up with sexy & revealing looks, classic silhouettes, and minimalist chic. Every time I spot her on a blog, her look is stunning! Kelly has really come into her own and I believe it’s the reason why her music is better. I didn’t love her first two solo efforts although there were tracks, I dug, I just didn’t like the work as a whole. However, her newest singles have been on constant rotation on my Blackberry MP3 player and on my laptop.

Tracks like “Rose Colored Glasses” discuss a broken relationship that outsiders don’t understand. Then there’s the up tempo, “Forever and a Day” where Kelly reveals how powerful her voice truly is, but still manages to give the song a groovy two step feel. Ā And back to the track, “Commander” that song is pure bootlicious fabulosity. Kelly looks stunning in the video, and in it, she faces off against herself to show the different sides of herself. “When Love Takes Over” is a beautiful song because of the melody, the lyrics, and the overall feel good flavor of the song. Overall, Kelly has grown significantly as an artist and I love her for it. Between her fashion and her music Kelly can go from style maven to style icon.

And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
