Press Pen: The Couture Council Luncheon Honoring Valentino

Dear Pennies & Pens,

On Wednesday, Sept. 7th, I had the pleasure of kicking off New York Fashion Week by attending & covering, The Couture Council’s Annual Awards Luncheon where they honored the iconic fashion designer & couturier, Valentino Garavani. The Couture Council is a prestigious membership group dedicated to supporting The Museum at FIT. The Couture Council is the group responsible for organizing fundraising events that will support The Museum at FIT. Learn more about The Couture Council here.

Going back to the Luncheon, it was fabulous! Being in a room with so many successful & famous people was awesome. It was a truly wonderful experience & I want to take a minute to personally thank, Dr. Valerie Steele who is the Director of the Museum at FIT, Chair of the Couture Council, for supporting me & de la Pen!

The event attendees included fashion heavyweights such as Anna Wintour whom Simon Doonan called “The Patriot Saint of American Fashion” during his speech, Glenda Bailey, Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar, Diane Von Fursternberg, Fashion Designer & President of the CFDA, Virginia Smith, Vogue Editor, and Robert Verdi, Style Consultant extraordinaire, and also Kobe Bryant & his wife.

The event began with a cocktail reception which allowed guests time to network & chat with friends they hadn’t seen in awhile. Also, the media was running around snapping pics and interviewing attendees. I however, decided to wait at the top of the stairs to see if I could catch Valentino’s arrival which I did! I was able to snap a couple pics of Valentino, Dr. Steele, and Dr. Joyce Brown.

The event was pretty simple in that it only consisted of remarks from Dr. Joyce Brown (President of FIT), Simon Doonan, Charlotte Moss (one of the Luncheon Chairs), Anna Wintour’s speech & presentation of The Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion to Valentino, and Mr. Valentino’s thank you remarks. Dr. Joyce Brown also read a letter that Karl Lagerfeld (last year’s recipient of the award) wrote to Valentino.

Overall, it was an amazing event! I truly enjoyed it. I’m also going to publish a separate post that highlights my tweets from the Luncheon. Stay tuned for more New York Fashion Week coverage!

And there it is. The Fashion & Style of the Pen…de la Pen.

P.S. I’m going to post more pictures on my Facebook page as soon as I can. I’m still running around covering other events, so stay tuned!
