Pen.Point: The Seasoned Traveler…A Staycation at Hotel ICON Review

Dear Pennies & Pens,

As you all know from my last post, Pen.Point: The Seasoned Traveler…A Staycation at Hotel ICON, I stayed at the Hotel ICON  in downtown Houston on Saturday. I absolutely loved the hotel! The decor was beautiful and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Upon checking in, I went up to my room and snapped a few photos which you can see on Google+.

My room was perfect, it had a King size bed, a large TV, a lounge area with two chairs, two foot stools, and a desk. The bathroom featured a large tub with Whirpool jets, a shower, and of course a toilet and sink. I took a relaxing bubble bath in the tub and it was heaven on earth! It took me an hour to get ready for dinner after my bath because my body was that relaxed! Lol.

Moving right along, I adored my room and besides a drink and dinner at the bar, I pretty much hung out in my room. I’ve been super stressed so I wasn’t pressed to do much. Plus I was still exhausted from the work week and the Jay Z & Beyonce` concert from the night before (more on that later). While we’re talking dinner and drinks, the food was amazing! I had a read a bad review via Foursquare but I didn’t pay it much attention because some reviewers just say mean things.

I had the Scallops and a Crab Cake. The bartender recommended I get the small plates so I could have both dishes. It ended up being an excellent recommendation especially for a foodie & seafood lover like me. I’m sorry I didn’t snap a pic, but I was too hungry, lol!

The only buzzkill is that the hotel’s valet parking is a tad pricey at $29.50 per night. BUT there’s plenty of nearby street parking that is much cheaper. I parked a block away from the hotel on Franklin Street and since I got there at 4:30pm, I only paid $3 for parking as parking is free after 6pm on Saturday and all day Sunday.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Hotel ICON for a weekend getaway in Houston. It’s in the heart of downtown Houston so there’s quite a few bars & restaurants in walking distance. Be sure to check them out here: www.hotelicon.com and follow them on Twitter: @HotelICON and Facebook: HotelICON.

And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything.
