Press Pen: Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015

Dear Pennies & Pens,

Last year, I kicked off coverage of Copenhagen Fashion Week with this post, Press Pen: Copenhagen Fashion Week Fall 2013. I am excited to again be featuring Copenhagen Fashion Week with the Spring/Summer 2015 collections.

Copenhagen Fashion Week started with the Danish/Faroese avant-garde brand BARBARA í GONGINI as they kicked off the shows on Tuesday, August 5 at Copenhagen City Hall.

Overall, Copenhagen Fashion Week included a unique mix of brands with emerging designers Anne Sofie Madsen and Asger Juel Larsen as well as the more established brands like Ganni and Henrik Vibskov.

The classic fashion houses such as Mads Nørgaard and By Malene Birger showed this season as well. In this post, I’ll be featuring my favorite designers and collections from Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015. That said, check it out below!

1. By Malene Birger – By Malene Birger is s an international designer brand bringing an artistic angle to contemporary classics. Strong graphics, contrasts and interesting silhouettes are part of a signature style designed to be sharp and modern.

It’s about creating a look that echoes style icons from the past in the present. By Malene Birger has won several awards including “Brand of the Year” by Costume Norway. The brand is sold in 37 countries including France, the UK, US, Australia, and South Africa.

For the Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Design Manager Christina Exsteen created a collection with neutral colors like white, nude, cream, blue, and black. I really liked this collection, it was definitely classic yet modern.

My favorite look was an off white top and white pants. This look reminded me of a new age Katherine Hepburn outfit. Check out the full collection here: ByMaleneBirger.com/SS2015

2. Stine Ladefoged – Stine Ladefoged is a Danish brand that was founded by Designer Stine Ladefoged after she graduated from Danmarks Designskole. Stine’s line is all about simplicity and innovative detailing. Most of the garments are knitwear and jersey. The details are brought to life through draping and experimenting with different techniques on the knitting machine.

For the Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Stine presented a collection that included white, black, and yellow. Most of the collection featured cocktail dresses and it was really edgy. It reminded me of the hip downtown girls in NYC or the stylish chicks you see in Dallas.

My favorite look was a grey and white dress, it had some unique details. I also loved the hair styling, side ponytails definitely need to make a comeback! Check out the full collection here: copenhagenfashionweek.com/Stine Ladefoged.

3. Fonnesbech – Fonnesbech was founded in 1847 and started as a small basement shop to become an exclusive department store in Copenhagen. Fonnesbech is dedicated to creating fashion that combines high quality craftsmanship and usability with an intelligent take on functionality.

Fonnesbech pieces are tailored and fitted to showcase elegance. Fonnesbech recently revitalized itself which is marked by their Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

With their Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Fonnesbech used more colors with orange, white, yellow, blue, cream, and pale pink included in the collection. I really liked this collection! It was pretty and chic. My favorite look was this pale pink top and matching pants. It was gorgeous! Check out the full collection here: Fonnesbech-cph.com/SS2015

4. Nicklas Kunz – Nicklas Kunz is about exploring masculine wardrobes. Each garment is a celebration of freedom and manhood. This season’s collection inspiration comes from the Nordic streets, athleticism, urban culture, and the cleanliness of contemporary art.

This Spring/Summer 2015 collection consisted of fashionable sportswear for men. It reminded me of the 1990s Hip-hop style. The color palette included yellow, black, gray, and white. The models were all barefoot and most were bare chested as well.

The collection was very modern and masculine. Overall, it was really solid to me. Check it out here: Nicklaskunz.com/Legendary Hoodlum
