LOUD.Life: I ain’t from Dallas but I D-Town Boogie

Dear Pennies & Pens,

Okay so just in case you didn’t know, I moved to Dallas almost two weeks ago. Prior to moving to Dallas, I had been living in Houston since late 2013. Before that, I lived in NYC for 5 years. Breathless yet? I am. Life ain’t been no crystal stair.

Moving right along, I wanted to give you guys an update on why I moved to Dallas and what it’s been like living here. I moved to Dallas because it is thriving in every way, shape, and form! Dallas has art, music, culture, fashion, tech, startups, entrepreneurs, sports, literally everything! And for an entrepreneur like me, that’s exactly the kind of environment I want to be in.

I chose to move to Dallas for several reasons. First off, Dallas has a great the cost of living. It’s very affordable, as you can find a nice apartment or house in the city for significantly less than NYC, Chicago, or LA. In essence, you get to live in a major city without the major price tag. Then there’s plenty to do as far as events and activities, I have been out every night for the past 2 weeks so you won’t get bored or be starved for something to do.

The food and restaurant scene in Dallas is also awesome. I love that there’s plenty of Vegetarian/Vegan restaurants in the city as you guys know I am a Vegetarian and I am transitioning into Veganism. But carnivores don’t fret, there’s plenty of meat serving restaurants as well. This is still Texas after all. And there’s sports, Dallas will love the Cowboys no matter how many times Tony Romo chokes in the 4th QT. I for one have loved the Cowboys since the Troy Aikman years so I won’t be giving up on them anytime soon either.

And lest we forget the amount of entrepreneurs I have met since living here. I mean wow. I had been networking with people online prior to moving here but now that I’m here, it’s crazy. Literally, everyone I have met has their own business or they’re getting ready to start one. And every business is different, I’ve met professional photographers, insurance agents, event planners, people with tech startups, healthcare nonprofits, bloggers, and so much more. It has truly been an amazing experience.

Since arriving here in Dallas, I’ve gone to several different events. I recently joined an organization called Circle Seven Five (I’ll tell you all about CSF in a separate post) so I’ve gone to several CSF events as well as an event hosted by Lexus called VidaLexus that featured Puerto Rican singer Raquel Sofia. I also went to State of Entrepreneurship 2015 which was hosted by the Dallas Entrepreneur Center and an event called El Mercado which was held at the Erin Cluley gallery.

I am so excited that I’ve been able to attend so many cool events and meet different types of people. So far my life in Dallas is looking pretty fabulous and I can’t wait to see how it expands in the new year! I will definitely continue to keep you guys posted so make sure you follow me on Twitter: @LoudPen  & Instagram: @LoudPen to stay in the loop.
