A Penny for Your Thoughts: About Those Texas Abortion Laws

Dear Pennies & Pens,

I woke up to a text from my homegirl this morning – she was sharing the new anti-abortion laws that Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law. As stated in a CNN article, ā€œThe Texas bill, SB 8, requires that abortion providers check for a fetal heartbeat before performing an abortion, and bans them from carrying out the procedure if one is detected.ā€

The Texas bill, SB 8 includes women who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest. So that means if Duggar got one of his sisters pregnant, sheā€™d be forced to have the baby in the state of Texas. Let that sink in.

I’m frustrated by the new anti abortion laws in Texas not just because they are anti feminist and take away women’s reproductive rights. But because it’s the Karen & Beckys that have abortions in the first place. Most Black & Latina women give birth to their children regardless of the circumstance, their financial situation, age, etc.

So Abbott and them are trying to save Karen’s baby. But Karen keeps raising these psycho sons that shoot and kill people for no reason. Seriously, almost every mass shooting was done by a white male. So maybe Karen shouldn’t have the baby after all. And like I said, anti abortion laws will not stop minority children from being born because Black & Latina women have their children.

The saddest part of this situation is while these conservatives run around condemning abortion, none of them ever adopts children or acts as a foster parent. Maybe no one told them that the children in the foster care system are children who were not aborted. Thatā€™s why so many children end up in foster care – because their families for whatever reason cannot care for them.

If the conservatives want to continue this anti abortion wave then they better get prepared to fund the foster care system because that is where many unaborted children will end up. It sounds awful but it’s true. If a woman tried to abort her child and was unable to, then she will most likely give the baby up for adoption. And if she doesnā€™t secure adoptive parents, then off to foster care the baby goes.

With that being said, it makes me wonder…was the childā€™s life really saved because they werenā€™t aborted? I mean how many kids make it out of foster care healthy & happy? How many go on to be productive citizens? Thatā€™s my concern…if women are stopped from having abortions that they clearly want…what happens to the baby? Yes, the child is born but whatā€™s next?!Ā
