Why I Love MONSTA X

Dear Pennies & Pens,

Today, I’m going to introduce you to my favorite K Pop group, MONSTA X. Consisting of 6 members (7 if you’re an Ol G OT7 stan) Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney and I.M (honorable mention to Wonho), MONSTA X hails from South Korea.

Since 2015, Monsta X has been releasing non stop bops that blend Hip hop, EDM, Rock and Pop. Monsta X is signed to South Korean entertainment agency, Starship Entertainment. I just started listening to them last year but they’re seriously one of my favorite groups of all time. What I love most about Monsta X is their love for their fans. They are always creating original and unique content for their fandom lovingly called Monbebe. I am a proud Monbebe!

MONSTA X’s vocals, lyrical/rap skills, choreography, style and swag is unlike anything else I have ever seen. This is evident in their latest song & music video GAMBLER. In this song, they seamlessly blend Korean & English as they sing/rap, the styling is fresh & original and the music video feels like a mini movie.

One of their members, Joohoney is determined to emulate Michael Jackson, and in this video, he succeeds in that mission. I swear the spirit of the King of Pop was with him. So anyway, check out GAMBLER below.

Love Killa music video by MONSTA X

The next song/video I’d like to share is Love Killa. This MONSTA X video is actually creepy in so many ways as the guys play famous bad guys like Heath Ledger’s version of The Joker and Christian Bale in American Psycho.

One of their members, Minhyuk literally pours red paint over this mannequin head and it’s like what?! However, you won’t be able to stop watching the video because their vocals are so good. Oh and Shownu’s (member and leader of MONSTA X) dance break is fire as well.

Combine that with Joohoney & I.M’s rap skills and you have MONSTA X. Oh and how I could I forget Kihyun’s high notes and Hyungwon’s swag in the dance break?! No one brushes their shoulders off like Hyungwon in this video. Hyungwon’s vocals are dope too. I love his smooth low voice. He’s the deep voice dude from Boyz II Men. Ol Gs know what I mean.

Shoot Out music video by MONSTA X

Next we have another classic MONSTA X song, Shoot Out. It has just enough English to make you feel like you can sing along. This song is ruled by Kihyun and rightfully so as he’s their main vocalist and considered the King of K Pop. You cannot come for his vocals.

The choreography also shines in the video. It matches the song in a way I cannot actually describe in spite of being a published Author with 3 books and writing professionally for the past 13 years.

Watch it now.

DRAMARAMA music video by MONSTA X

Now here’s DRAMARAMA – another iconic MONSTA X (몬스타엑스) song.  Honestly, this video makes me feel like these gentlemen need to be cast in their own movie asap.

Like the acting they do in this video is unreal. My favorite parts include Minhyuk playing a Barista (because I actually worked at a coffee shop), Wonho & Shownu’s fight scenes, Kihyun running after Joohoney’s car and I.M trying to save Minhyuk. Just watch it so you can become a stan already.

Trespass music video by MONSTA X

Okay so I know I’ve overwhelmed you with MONSTA X (몬스타엑스) so this will be my last MV share. This video features the song, TRESPASS.

I am sharing TRESPASS last because it’s their debut song. As you watch the video, you won’t believe it’s the first song they ever released back in 2015. To have this much swag, 6 years ago when you’re just starting out is unreal. This song and video is ruled by Joohoney. You will not be able to take your eyes off of him.

So that’s MONSTA X. Check them out and support!

And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
