Beauty and the Pen: Why You Must Use Essential + Carrier Oils on Natural Hair

Dear Pennies & Pens,

As you all know, the last few posts have been all about natural hair care. In this post, I’m going to talk about why you must use essential oils on natural hair.

Essential oils include Rosemary, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Bergamot, Orange and Lemon, etc. Each has different uses so it’s important to learn about each one before using. Also, you must use a “carrier oil” with an essential oil. A carrier oil is used to dilute essential oils because on their own they will irritate your hair or skin.

Carrier oils include Olive Oil, Jojoba oil, castor oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, etc. Just like with essential oils, these oils have their own uses so again do your research on each one prior to using. Once again, you must use a carrier oil with an essential oil. Although, carrier oils can be used on their own to moisturize your hair.

Essential oils and carrier oils help with hair growth and keep it moisturized. In essence, this is why they are essential to your natural hair care routine. If you want your hair to grow then you should use eucalyptus and rosemary oil because both have been known to promote hair growth. Also, castor oil and olive oil are perfect for keeping your hair moisturized.

Simply put, essential oils and carrier oils are must-have items for healthy natural hair. You can purchase these oils online or at local grocery stores like Whole Foods and Kroger. I personally prefer to get my essential oils from Whole Foods and with carrier oils I get those from Whole Foods or Kroger depending on the price.
