K Penny: Overdrive by I.M Album, a press play album with no skips

Dear Pennies & Pens,

In this post, K Penny: Overdrive by I.M Album Review, I review I.M’s 2nd Solo EP, OVERDRIVE. This album was released on June 23, 2023. I.M is a soloist and a member of MONSTA X, The Kings of K-Pop

I truly love OVERDRIVE. It’s so original and unique. With its own flair, it truly defines I.M’s iconic line: I am what I am. He really has his own unique vibe. He reminds me of Salvador Dali because his music is very abstract as the lyrics aren’t linear but somehow it all makes sense.

Although there are only six songs on OVERDRIVE, it’s a complete album. It’s a press play album with no skips. Starting with the title track OVERDRIVE, this song has so much swag. With a cool beat and fresh lyrics, it’s a dope song.

Next there is Blame – this song slows down the vibe of the album but don’t worry, it won’t put you to sleep. It’s got I.M’s signature baritone vocals combined with a jazzy beat. I absolutely love it. After this is Dumb – with an unforgettable chorus “Are you dumb, dumb, dumb baby you’re so numb”, you’ll be singing along as you vibe with I.M.

Following this song is Habit, which has proven to be a favorite amongst MONBEBE (fans of MONSTA X). This song combines a jazzy beat with I.M’s beautiful vocals. I would love to see him perform it with a live band because the saxophonist truly makes this song stand out. Jazz is missing from a lot of modern music so it was refreshing to hear I.M incorporate it into his music.

Then there’s More – a truly seductive song. It makes me blush each and every time. I adore this song because it’s something you don’t often hear in K-Pop. Most K-Pop songs are more lighthearted and don’t really explore adult themes. However, I.M is always willing to do his own thing and be authentic.

Last is the song, Not Sorry. In Not Sorry, I.M pulls inspiration from AfroPop. It really feels like he took a trip to Nigeria or Ghana prior to creating this song. I seriously wonder what made him create this song. It’s definitely a phenomenal song.

K Penny: Overdrive by I.M Album Review Vlog

In the vlog below, I review the album while listening to the songs. I am trying out a new album review format (although YouTube is gonna flag the video).

I thought it would be cool to play the songs as I review the album so that you (Pennies & Pens) can listen to the songs with me. Kinda like a bootleg reaction video.

Anyway, check out the vlog below. It’s a fun vlog and I had a blast shooting it.
