Pen’s Eye: THE CHER SHOW

Dear Pennies & Pens,

In this post, Pen’s Eye: The Cher Show, I review The Cher Show and share a vlog I shot while attending the performance.

As stated in the press release, “Superstars come and go. Cher is forever. For six straight decades, only one unstoppable force has flat-out dominated popular culture – breaking down barriers, pushing boundaries and letting nothing and no one stand in her way.

THE CHER SHOW

THE CHER SHOW is the Tony Award®-winning musical of her story, and it’s packed with so much Cher that it takes three women to play her: the kid starting out, the glam pop star, and the icon.

THE CHER SHOW is 35 smash hits, six decades of stardom, two rock-star husbands, a Grammy®, an Oscar®, an Emmy®, and enough Tony Award-winning Bob Mackie gowns to cause a sequin shortage in New York City, all in one unabashedly fabulous new musical that will have audiences dancing in the aisles!”

I, like so many people around the world, have always admired Cher. So it was a real treat to cover this event because as a millennial, I missed some of Cher’s most iconic moments. During the performance, I really feel like I got to witness Cher’s life story.

My Thoughts on THE CHER SHOW

The musical features three actresses playing Cher i.e., young teenage Cher, Cher in her 20s and then Cher of today. It was really cool because during the musical, the three Chers would interact with one another. This made it feel like the older Cher was talking to her younger self…something we all wish we could do.

THE CHER SHOW was absolutely amazing. I loved the music, the costumes and the acting. It was also very inspiring for women because Cher stood up for herself and spoke out against sexism. I also didn’t know that her father was Armenian so Cher was ahead of her time as a biracial woman.

In the vlog below, you’ll see me attending THE CHER SHOW at the Winspear Opera House. As I said, I adored the performance and I am so blessed to have seen this show.
