Pen’s Eye: Being Leonardo Da Vinci

Dear Pennies & Pens,

I have always loved the theater. I love seeing the actors and actresses perform right in front of me. I feel like seeing a live performance allows you to see the story unfold right in front of you. It’s so beautiful and interesting.

Moving right along, I recently attended Being Leonardo Da Vinci at the University of St. Thomas here in Houston. The play was written by director and actor, Massimiliano Finazzer Flory.

As stated in the press materials, “Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most fascinating people to have ever lived. He was a great inventor, artist and a leading intellectual of the Italian Renaissance. In this theatrical piece, written by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, Leonardo is portrayed in an inventive way, using both the modern and Renaissance language.”

Being Leonardo Invite

Being Leonardo Da Vinci was such a cool play because Musician Julia Kent interviewed Leonardo Da Vinci (Massimiliano Finazzer Flory) asking about his life and work. That said, it was like getting insight into the mind of one the world’s greatest artists.

Massimiliano did an amazing job of portraying Leonardo! He really got into the character and it felt like I was watching the real Leonardo. Also, Julia Kent did a fabulous job as well. During some of the transitions she played music on her cello.

The only thing that made the performance a bit difficult to follow was the fact that it was in Italian so you had to watch Massimiliano and read the subtitles on the screen at the same time. But other than that, I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend checking this one out!

And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
