Pen Style: Copenhagen Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2020 Day 3 Inkcap

Dear Pennies & Pens,

In this post, Pen Style: Copenhagen Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2020 Day 3 Inkcap, I will talk about Copenhagen Fashion Week.

As you may know, I went to Copenhagen back in October and worked with The Andersen Hotel and Danish Design Museum. Since I have always loved Danish fashion, I knew I wanted to feature Copenhagen Fashion Week.

What is Copenhagen Fashion Week ?

As stated on their website, “Copenhagen Fashion Week is Scandinavia’s only fashion week taking place biannually in January/February and August. Each season, Copenhagen Fashion Week welcomes esteemed press, buyers and influencers to four days of shows, presentations and events as well as the two trade shows, CIFF and Revolver.

Sustainability is the core focus area for Copenhagen Fashion Week. Copenhagen Fashion Week strives towards making substantial changes to the way the event is executed and works to inspire the industry to take steps towards becoming more sustainable.”

Inkcap: My Favorite Designers from Day 3

(DI)VISION AW20

As stated in the press notes, “(di-) is a word-forming element meaning “two, double, twice,”. In other words (di) can be described as the process of one becoming two. (di)vision is a Copenhagen based design and fashion label founded in 2018 and is directed by the siblings Nanna Wick and Simon Wick. Bred from the constant exposure of creativity in their everyday environment and the urge to create themselves.

With a sustainable mindset they create by taking already existing items and producing something new out of them, giving it a new expression and point of view. With the environment in mind almost everything they create is reconstructed and sewed by them in their own design studio in Copenhagen.

There isn’t a specific definition of what (di)vision stand for – it’s how you see it. Either you take one jacket and make it two, or take two thoughts and make it one vision. (di) vision is divided into three lines, each different in terms of production and the purpose of the garment.”

This collection was casually cool. It mostly featured prints and denim looks. My favorite pieces were a T-shirt that blended prints with the face of Bob Marley and another tee that incorporated the Superman logo. This collection was made for the cool kids – the ones who want something fresh and dope.

DESIGNERS REMIX AW20

As stated in the press notes, “Designers Remix is a sustainable Danish fashion brand designed by Charlotte Eskildsen.

Charlotte Eskildsen has a sustainable approach to every aspect of the design process, she has a strong belief in using innovative high-quality sustainable materials, which underlines the experimental vibe in the creation of clothes with strong iconic silhouettes for a global audience.

Designers Remix was founded by creative director Charlotte Eskildsen and her husband and CEO, Niels Eskildsen. The brand started in 2002 remixing deadstock products following a sustainable philosophy.

Since then, they have successfully developed the company into an award winning global brand available in stores across Europe, the Middle East, Russia, USA, and Asia. Today Designers Remix has become a true favorite among several International influencers and celebrities.”

This collection was phenomenal! A truly modern and chic collection. Most of the pieces were black or white which I loved (y’all know my brand colors are black and white). One of my favorite looks was a long white button up, black blazer and black slacks. I loved this look because it was something I would wear. I also adored other pieces like this top with oversized/ruffled sleeves, and a  coat with cool sleeves. It was truly a fantastic collection!

RODEBJER AW20

As stated in the press notes, “Rodebjer creates fashion for the modern woman. By understanding and respecting her real needs we create fashion that strengthens her identity in everyday life.

Our designs are easy to wear and sustainable in quality and style. We offer a full range collection and our core products are suits and sets that simplify and enhance everyday living.

Carin Rodebjer is the founder and Creative Director.”

This collection was fabulous! It was very chic with a diverse color palette that included royal blue, black, white and navy blue. My absolute favorite look was a royal blue suit because it was ultra modern and sophisticated. There was also a gray coat that looked warm as well as stylish. Overall, it was the perfect collection for women on the go.

BY MALENE BIRGER AW20

As stated in the press notes, “By Malene Birger is a Danish womenswear brand that creates classic silhouettes with playful feminine details; pieces that are both timeless and fashion-forward.

By Malene Birger’s collections work in a variety of settings, from the office to an upscale event; from a casual morning coffee to a day out with the family. It’s all about having a wardrobe for a full life, so that being stylish feels easy and fun.”

Like many of its previous collections, the Autumn Winter 2020 collection By Malene Birger did not disappoint. It was unique and modern. I loved how the collection was styled for the runway. There was a yellow dress paired with a navy coat, a light brown coat with a black dress, as well as an all black look. These were probably my three favorite looks although I loved every piece in the collection.

BAUM UND PFERDGARTEN AW20

As stated in the press notes, “Baum und Pferdgarten was established in Copenhagen in 1999 by Rikke Baumgarten & Helle Hestehave, who had just graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Design, where they had started their creative partnership.

At the time, the Danish fashion scene was divided, either you could work for one of the big companies existing at the time or you could start your own business and play with your own voice.

They created the brand name as a humorous interplay between their surnames, and it reflects the dualistic playfulness, which is also echoed in their design.”

This was an interesting collection. It featured solid colors as well as prints giving it a truly unique look. There were styles that I loved and styles that I didn’t care for as much. My favorite look was a reddish/orange dress, a top and pants set in the same color as well as a black button down dress. It was a cool collection overall.

SOULLAND AW20

As stated in the press notes, “Soulland was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2002. Through Soulland, Silas Adler, Creative Director and Jacob Kampp Berliner, CEO, present their take on the contemporary fashion brand. With design principles and aesthetics rooted in curiosity and research, Soulland produces high quality woman and menswear characterized by timelessness, contrast and an environmental conscience.

I really enjoyed this collection. The majority of the pieces were black, gray or blue with a few printed looks as well. My favorite looks were a gray jacket and pants then a white printed sweater with navy slacks. I thought both looks were effortlessly stylish.
